 A Family Legacy

Lessons, Values, and Inspiration for Life

My name is Chal Arif Jales Ngabehi Taftian, and I was born on November 23, 2003, in Yogyakarta. My family has a unique and colorful story, with my father born in Banyuwangi in March 1779 and carrying Thai heritage, and my mother born in July 1779 with pure Javanese roots. Our family is a blend of cultures that not only enriches our identity but also instills many valuable lessons in life.

Diversity as an Inspiration

As a family with diverse backgrounds, we were taught to see differences as a strength, not a barrier. My father embodies the discipline and resilience typical of Thai heritage. He often reminds me that life must be lived with responsibility and maximum effort. Meanwhile, my mother represents the gentleness and wisdom of Javanese culture. She always emphasizes the importance of patience, respect, and mutual cooperation in life. This blend of values creates harmony within our family. Even though my parents come from different cultural backgrounds, they have successfully united their perspectives and created a loving and supportive family environment. From them, I have learned that differences are a strength that can bring a family closer together.

The Importance of Education in Our Family

Since childhood, I have been surrounded by discussions about the importance of education. For my parents, education is the foundation for a better future. My father encourages critical thinking and problem-solving, while my mother emphasizes that learning is a lifelong process that goes beyond the classroom. My father often says that education is not just about grades on paper but about shaping character and personality. From my mother, I have learned to focus not only on the outcome but also on enjoying the process of learning itself. They have always ensured that I have their full support in pursuing knowledge, both formally and informally.

In our family, communication is everything. My parents always create an open space for discussions where I can freely talk about anything—from small issues at school to big plans for the future. They believe that a strong family is built on openness and mutual understanding. These discussions not only strengthen our bond but also teach me how to think logically and consider different perspectives. Like a well-functioning information system, our family works with a smooth flow of communication, ensuring that every decision is made wisely and thoughtfully.

If I were to describe our family as a system, we resemble a well-organized Management Information System (MIS). My father acts as the strategic leader who designs the family’s vision and long-term goals, while my mother is the operational manager who ensures everything runs smoothly on a daily basis. I see myself as the “support team,” responsible for learning and growing to support the family’s bigger vision. In this system, every family member complements one another, ensuring that what we do aligns with the values we hold dear.

Values That Are Always Instilled

One of the things I am most grateful for is the abundance of positive values my family has taught me. Honesty is one of the core values. My father always emphasizes that integrity is the foundation of trust, both in personal relationships and professional settings. Gratitude is another essential lesson. My mother teaches me to always be thankful for whatever I have, no matter how small. According to her, gratitude is the key to maintaining happiness in life. These values serve as a clear guide for me to live a meaningful life.

My father is an incredibly inspiring figure. With his Thai heritage, he brings an extraordinary sense of discipline to everything he does. He always teaches me that success is not a matter of luck but the result of hard work, planning, and perseverance. He often talks about the importance of having a vision in life. According to him, without a vision, we would only wander aimlessly. This advice has stayed with me and serves as a guide in planning my future.

On the other hand, my mother is the source of gentleness and wisdom in our family. With her strong Javanese roots, she always emphasizes the importance of maintaining harmonious relationships with others. “Life is not just about yourself,” she often says, “but also about how you can bring value to others. She also teaches me the importance of facing challenges with patience and a calm mind. From her, I have learned that true strength lies in the ability to stay composed during difficult times.

The Role of Family in Shaping Character

What I have learned from my family has shaped my character and worldview. From my father, I learned about determination and responsibility, while from my mother, I learned about empathy and wisdom. This combination of values has helped me become a more balanced individual, ready to face various challenges. In this modern era, I see how our family also utilizes technology as part of our daily lives. From staying connected through devices to managing information and decisions, technology becomes a tool that supports our family system. My father often discusses how technology can enhance efficiency, but he always reminds me of the importance of maintaining core values even as technology evolves.
As a part of this family, I feel a responsibility to carry on the values they have taught me. I believe that what I have learned from my parents is not only beneficial for myself but also for the people around me. My family is my greatest source of inspiration. They teach me that with hard work, good communication, and strong values, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.
